About Us

Our dental practice was started in 1972 in downtown Green Bay, by Dr. Ken Nockerts and Dr. Daniel Grossman. Eventually Dr. Tom Nockerts and Dr. Richard Jensen joined the practice in 1981 and 1983; when it officially became Bay Dental. In 1992 Bay Dental moved to its current Green Bay location. Bay Dental was excited to partner with Dr. Joe Roznik in 2017 and welcome Dr. Matthew Smilanich in 2019.

Dr. Joe Roznik, DDS

Dr. Roznik grew up in Green Bay. After obtaining his undergraduate degree from UW-Oshkosh, he graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 2017. He is a member of the American Dental Association as well as the Wisconsin Dental Association.

Dr. Roznik spends time giving back to the community through Mission of Mercy and Trout Unlimited.

Dr. Roznik and his wife live in Green Bay and have been married since 2017. Dr. Roznik is a very avid fly fisherman, he has enjoyed fishing many rivers throughout the Midwest as well as several places abroad. Dr. Roznik even ties most of his own flies. Some of his other favorite activities include biking, gardening, hunting, and kayaking. He also enjoys spending summer weekends with his family and friends at his family’s cottage in Door County.

Dr. Matthew Smilanich, DDS

Dr. Smilanich graduated from Notre Dame Academy (high school) in Green Bay and completed his undergraduate degree at Marquette University before continuing on there and graduation from the Marquette University School of Dentistry in 2019. He is a member of the American and Wisconsin Dental Associations. 

At Marquette, Dr. Smilanich enjoyed treating patients of all ages and building relationships with his patients. He is excited to continue to meet new patients and continue to develop relationships with them. He will also be looking for new ways to give back to the community as he moves back to Green Bay. 

In his free time Dr. Smilanich is an avid golfer, and enjoys running, biking, traveling and spending time with his family. He enjoys watching and following sports, especially the Packers and Marquette Basketball.

Dr. Tom Nockerts, DDS (Retired)

Dr. Nockerts graduated from Marquette University Dental School in 1981. He has practiced dentistry in the Green Bay area for over thirty years.

He has memberships in the American Dental Association, the Wisconsin Dental Association, and the Brown-Door-Kewaunee Dental Society. He has been professionally active, holding positions in all associations. He has been honored by selection to membership in the Pierre Fauchard Academy and the International College of Dentists.

Dr. Nockerts community involvement includes the WDA programs, Donated Dental Services and Mission of Mercy. He has been active in girls softball, youth soccer and grade school basketball. He is a member of the National Ski Patrol.

Dr. Nockerts and his wife live in Green Bay, where they raised their four children. When not at work, he enjoys theatre, skiing, golfing and attending sporting events.

Dr. Rick Jensen, DDS (Retired)

Dr. Jensen was born and raised in Green Bay. After undergraduate work at the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul Minnesota, he went on to Marquette University and graduated from dental the school in 1980. He is a member of organized dentistry in the American Dental Association and the Wisconsin Dental Association. He is a past president of the Brown Door Kewaunee Dental Society.

Dr. Jensen has practiced dentistry in Green Bay for thirty plus years and with his wife has raised five children. In his “off time”, he enjoys visiting with his extensive family, sailing, swimming and “projects”.

Nicole

Nicole has been a member of our front office staff as a Patient Care Coordinator since 2011. Family and friends are the center of Nicole’s universe. She and her husband spend a lot of their free time visiting extended family.

As a Communications Graduate at UWGB, Nicole enjoys the challenge of the busy environment but has the ability to slow down to make sure patients feel cared for even before their first appointment.

Kailyn

Kailyn graduated from the dental assisting program at NWTC in 2010. She joined the Bay Dental staff in 2014.  Kailyn has had several roles in the office and can be seen in many different areas from sterilization, chairside assisting, and throughout the front office. She is currently the Operations Manager and Financial Coordinator.

Kailyn is married, has two daughters, a dog, and two cats. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, camping, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Julie

Julie has been a dental assistant at Bay Dental since 1990, starting shortly after graduating from NWTC. Her primary role in the office is as a chairside assistant. Julie’s goal is for patients to feel comfortable in the office and to assist them with their dental concerns.

Julie is married and has one daughter; she also helps care for her mother. Julie is a board member of WMPA Inc. and volunteers for Mission of Mercy.

Krissy

Krissy graduated with high honors from the dental assisting program at NWTC in 2018. Her main role is as a chairside assistant. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Krissy also loves animals, and gives her parents dogs and cats endless amounts of love. Krissy’s favorite activities are camping, relaxing by bonfires, swimming, and enjoying a good meal. 

Peggy

“I have been blessed to be part of the Bay Dental team as a hygienist since 1989. Bay Dental has always impressed me with the family atmosphere. I am proud of the environment and thankful for the support and friendships that have grown with both staff members and patients over the years.”

In her free time, Peggy spends time with her husband, three children and grandchildren. She enjoys spending time at her cottage, running, boating and just relaxing outdoors. Spending time with her family and friends is very important to her.

Michelle

Michelle graduated from NWTC in 1999 with a degree in Dental Hygiene. She has been a dental hygienist at Bay Dental since 2002.

Michelle is married and has one daughter. She has 2 dogs, a yellow and a black lab. In her free time, she enjoys going to concerts and spending time up north at the cottage. She, of course, is an avid Green Bay Packer fan and attends several games throughout the football season.

Barb

Barb is a 1998 graduate of NWTC in Green Bay. As a hygienist at Bay Dental, she enjoys helping our patients achieve and maintain their healthy smiles.

As a Wisconsin native, she enjoys country living and spending time with family and friends. Some of her favorite activities are camping, boating, biking, running and just about anything outdoors. Her career has also given her the opportunity to help those individuals that do not have access to dental care, volunteering and doing mission trips.

Sara

Sara is a 2002 graduate of the dental hygiene program at NWTC in Green Bay. She has been a dental hygienist with our office since April of 2019 and loves the welcoming atmosphere. She enjoys working with patients to achieve a healthy mouth and smile.

Sara enjoys many things involving the outdoors, family time at the cabin, quilting, reading, and training for her yearly triathlon race.  She and her husband have a springer spaniel dog.

Heather

Heather graduated from the NWTC Dental Assisting program in December 2019, receiving honors. She was happy to join the Bay Dental team in 2020. What she loves about dental assisting is the satisfaction of helping others and interacting with patients to make their experience better. She also loves her awesome team!

Heather enjoys good company from family, friends, and her well-loved dogs. In her free time she enjoys being outdoors in the warm weather, exercising, and traveling.

Ruby

Ruby is a 4 year old Red Setter. She is Dr. Roznik's hunting companion as well as a Certified Therapy dog and AKC Canine Good Citizen. Her hobbies include greeting patients, chewing on bones, and pointing birds through the window.
